Find Your Church First: PCS Well

As the military moves you, I am well aware that your to-do list is endless.

I understand that there is no bottom of your list.

But what’s at the top?

Let me guess: Where will we live? Where will the kids go to school? Where will we find the medical specialist we need? The necessary things in life!

These important matters are then followed by things like gyms, piano teachers, and veterinarians.

Where is “Find a Church and join it” on your list?

Based on my anecdotal observations, this task far too often falls under every example I’ve mentioned. It seems to fall into the category of “Oh yeah, maybe we should try out a church!”

The Bible doesn’t put it here, and neither should you. The book of Hebrews is a massive theological work. It is a book written to exhort the Hebrews to embrace Jesus as the Old Testament Messiah and live their lives according to that reality. It is a massive Christological commentary of the Old Testament.

And towards the end of the book, we read:

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus… let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:19, 24-25 [ESV])

Here’s my paraphrase. “Since Jesus is so awesome, and has granted you access to fellowship with God, go to church.”

The writer of Hebrews thinks the regular gathering together with other Christians as a habit is a big deal.

God’s desire for your spiritual health has “Find a Church” at the top of your list- not the bottom.

Grab your to-do list right now. Write “Find a Church and Join it” at the top of the list. And get to work.

And good news! You can do almost all of the work in this important task before you move! Or while you move! With a bit of effort, you can narrow your list of churches to visit to 1-3 before you roll into your new community!

How Do I Find a Church in My Military Community? I’m glad you asked! Click on the link, and I’ll walk you through it. (I wrote this article on The Praetorian Project’s website, so feel free to peruse that site while you’re there!)

Move this task of finding a church to the top of your list, and I am confident that the Lord will bless those efforts.

I love you guys,
