You did it! I assume you are reading this article because you have recently completed or are about to complete your military deployment. Congratulations!
The first thing I want you to hear is Jesus’ encouragement to his disciples in Mark 6, “Come away with me… and rest a while.” Jump right into the first article. I pray it will encourage you to take the necessary time to rest and process your thoughts and emotions.
Come Away and Rest Awhile. You have just been through a lot. Jesus desires that you take time away with him so that you can rest and process the season that is now behind you.
Navigating Post-Deployment: What Has God Taught You? It is important to take the time to process what the Lord has shown you over the past year of your life. It would be unwise to “move on” without taking sufficient time to mentally and spiritually process the journey behind you.
Navigating Post-Deployment: Questions for Your Ongoing Spiritual Journey. Following the above “looking back” article, you also need to take time to look forward. God has good things ahead. Take time to consider what he has for you.
Finding Strength in Suffering: A Journey of Hope. What was God’s purpose in this entire journey? If running this race has been like a marathon, what was the point of it all?
That final article my final thoughts on the topic of deployment. If this journey has been helpful for you, please consider the following:
- Share your deployment experience with others who are entering a similar season. Invite them to see what God has taught you through the process.
- Share this journey of articles with others who you believe will benefit from it. It is probably best to send them this link so that they can experience the entire journey from the beginning even if you did not have that luxury.
- Check out my other (shorter!) writing journey: Read the Bible for Yourself. I believe this is foundational to your spiritual journey.
- Consider subscribing to this blog (below) to see any other writing journeys I take up in the future. While I disable comment threads on these articles, I would love a conversation with you about how this has been helpful. Subscribing opens that conversation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to engage in this process. I pray that it has been helpful for you. I count it a joy and a privilege to have you welcome me into this deeply spiritual journey with you.
I love you guys,
Brian O’Day

[…] I pray these are helpful to you. As I’ve said before, I cannot walk this path for you, but I pray that I can walk it with you. Once you are home, make sure you gain all the wisdom you can from this time by continuing this journey after the deployment. […]
